OH nurse is first female in demolition federation
An occupational health nurse has broken new ground by becoming the first female member of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors. Nichola Elvy, managing director of award-winning OH consultancy Building Health, which specialises in working with the construction and demolition industries, was made an associate member of the association in recognition of her OH work within the industry.
Her company was also recently featured on a BBC1 television series and last year won a 'Best Occupational Health Initiative' award run by industry magazine Building.
Elvy, who described herself as "delighted" at the recognition, said: "It's not just about knocking things down anymore. The demolition industry is very safety conscious and it is leading the way in occupational health. There are risks and challenges but they are all manageable, and that's where we come in."

The managing director of an occupational health and safety consultancy has become the first female associate member of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors. Nichola Elvy, form Lewisham, south London, is an occupational health nurse and former inspector with the Health & Safety Executive. She now works with Building Health, a consultancy that specialises in demolition.
